What can do for you

Outsourcing is commonly associated with the desire to cut costs. Myths such as outsourcing leads to deterioration of quality, regional imbalance are also not uncommon. But if the pros and cons are compared, outsourcing might not sound as bad as viewed earlier. As more and more companies are extending their reach into the global marketplace, new entrants and growing organizations are increasingly taking on the role of international consultants, providing the services needed. It may be a simple case that an IT department is not large enough to handle the necessary international support services, or maybe its not the key area of focus for an organization. Moreover, in the past 10 years or so, IT has developed at such an alarming rate that companies with core competency other than IT are finding it difficult to fulfill the necessities. These complexities have contributed to the growth of outsourcing, which offers an avenue for the company to best serve the needs. Contracting out basic IT functions is not a new idea and has been around for many years, but now, in the interests of saving money and streamlining business so they can focus on what they do best, companies are more often bundling all IT processes under one contract. These contracts literally take the IT function out of a company and hand it over to a third-party. For instance, famed multinationals have signed multimillion-dollar, long-term contracts with BPO firms to handle their IT needs. Outsourcing services also serve to fill gaps in IT departments core competencies to ultimately bring benefit to the organization. Globalization has also pushed outsourced IT functions onto a much larger and strategic playing field. A company going global may now rely on outside consultants to help it develop a competent, qualified global infrastructural support. The key is ensuring that the service loop (planning-delivery-feedback-planning) of an outsourcing contract includes proper communication between the outsourced company and the mother, so that the contract may proceed in a mutually beneficial manner.
